swapping 8.1 motors

Trying to get an 8.1 out of a 05 2500 hd. I am going to put another 8.1 in. This is hooked to an allison. Got the simple stuff unhooked. Need some help with some of the other...

I have a gas line tool but wont work on the f.i. line. Is this a specific chevy tool? Think mine is from auto zone and ive had it a few years.

Would it be better to leave all the power steering and coolant lines hooked up and just remove the pumps and brackets from the motor and put back on new motor.

Any tricks to getting it off the allison or will it slide off once i got all the bolts out?

I believe I will have to cut the nuts off the exhaust manifolds where the pipe attaches. I cant budge them.

The passenger side motor mount is kinda easy to get to but the drivers is not. Was thinking of unbolting the complete mount from the frame. Any suggestions?

Will I have to take the radiator out to pull the motor? Hope not but dont want to mess it up either.

Thanks for the help.

In case you are wondering. This is a work truck and the help drove it a week with no oil in it. Duh...thats why it said check oil. It spun a bearing and makes a lot of noise now.

I don't know about the gas line tool, I know on small blocks its easier to leave most of the stuff on IF you pull the rad...then just swap over everything on the floor up on stand or blocks. My experience with manifold bolts it's easier to soak them in PB blaster, I've only ever removed those to put headers on so I didn't really care I just hammered em with impact till they broke lol...

I've never changed a big block or anything involving allison...I would think it would be easier pulling rad/rad support out, give you some more breathing room...

I've never done this swap so I'm sorry I can't help. The 8.1L in my '05 will set the DIC to "Check Oil Level" when it gets about 1-1.5 qts. low on oil. BTDT.

I would imagine you will need to remove the radiator to get enough space. Sometimes the tranny will hang on the dowel pins after you get all the bolts out. May have to take a prybar and persuade it a a little.

The suggestion i can give is do whatever you can before the new one goes back in!

I did a raylar cam in my 05 8.1, And it was the best upgrade i ever did..Huge pwr just from there awesome cam,

there heads are expensive but make big pwr to, I dont know if your into making power rite now, But if you thought you liked the 8.1 now.

You will never want to get out of it with a good tune and the 202 cam.. Also if you do the stainless works long tube headers its

Another 35-40 HP.

remove the starter motor, rotate engine by the crank bolt to remove torque converter bolts ....

upon reinstallation, find the hole on the flexplate that is NOT elongated,,,that is the first hole to bolting the TC (it lines up the rest of the bolts so you turn the engine once not twice
