Cylinder Heads - Again!

So I replaced the heads in my daughters 05 Tahoe about 2 1/2 years ago. She told me lately that she has to keep addig coolant and can't see any leaks. She comes home over the holidays and I can't find any leaks, but when I start it up, a pup of white smoke. I pull off the valve covers and yep, you guessed it, butterscotch pudding. Have to find some heads locally or within one day and replace them.

 

When I did it a couple of years ago, I got the refurbished heads from a place in Texas. I believe they were Castech heads that had been repaired. Needless to say, I'm ticked and plan on trying to find some new ones.

 

I guess the moral of this story is to recommend that anyone having to do this job do it with new heads.

I have an 03 tahoe 5.3 with 140,00, I plan to do a head and cam package.. Did you look into aftermarket

heads? Or did you just redo the oem set..

The ones I got were oem's that had been "refurbished." hahaha. Right now, I would prefer to find some new ones, but I live in a smaller town and time is kind of critical this this weekend and I will have to go see what's available by tomorrow. I would look at aftermarket ones, as long as they aren't made in china.

When I did mine I went with new ones. I had a local machine shop source them for me, then I had the valves & springs moved over to the new heads.

 

It took longer than a day to get, he had to order them.
