I've been thinking about what I want to do after HS, partically on WHY to go to college, and have been thinking along the lines of "criminal justice" or political stuff. I've been looking into the CIA and the NSA, and like the appearence of their student programs:

NSA:

HS Student undergraduate program, apply by Nov 30th of senior year, and if you are a finalist, get college paid for by the NSA, and you'll be guaranteed a job for 5 1/2 years after college, and also work for them during the summer of it too.

although if you back out before the 5/12 is up, you HAVE to repay the college fee's(understandable)

Or apply while your in to get a "fresh out of college" job specific to your degree, if your accepted

CIA:

one option, apply in college, only if it has a special coordinator that can get your info to the CIA

I'd would have figured the NSA would be the tricker to get into, guess I'm wrong, but if I get my real ACT score a few point higer than my P-ACT score, I'll mee the requirements to apply for NSA.

What do you guys think, is there something you guys know that I don't?

One of the best ways into the CIA is through the military. However I am not taking that route. I am in my senior year of highschool and plan to join the CIA as an Operations Officer after my college. I will spend my first 2 years local which will allow me to research colleges the CIA most look at. I recommend studying International Affairs and Languages/Linguistics. It also helps to train yourself physically and keep in VERY good shape. Remember, these guys recruit a lot from the military so you want to be able to compete mentally and physically with these soldiers.

If you have any other questions or comments for me just e-mail me: [email protected]

BTW im 17 years of age.

I would thing experience with forign languages would be helpful.  Russian, Chineese, or just the basic Spanish and french for starters.

Languages and Accounting I believe are the 2 areas the FBI looks at if I recall correctly from literature a few years back.  I would think a lot of the others to be the same.

It just depends on how you want to live your life.

Keep in mind that the CIA is not chartered for domestic service. That means that you would quite possibly be abroad for extended tours. (You can't drive that big ole Chevy in Naples, my friend.)

FBI is primarily stateside, but you might wind up being a broad for undercover work.

If you are in good physical shape, and looking at operations stuff, my advice would be go military first. But keep in mind, the FBI, CIA, NSA, as well as the Secret Service all have a requirement of a four year degree. There are waivers out there for a select few cases, but your best bet is get the degree first.

If you are looking for computer type work. FBI or NSA would be the way to go. Possibly even DISA, or some other DOD agency might be just as rewarding.

If you can get into an apprenticeship, internship, or whatever other program they offer that would be best. You can see what type of work you will be doing, network with a great many people, (interns get farmed out on all kinds of projects) and just get an overall idea if you are cut out for that type of employment.

If all else fails....Just go to college. That degree (on average) means a 15% higher salary over the course of a career. Thats a whole lot of cabbage my friend.

And cabbage buys trucks. Just look at the gypsies...they all drive trucks.
