2003 speedometer stuck

Hi Everyone,

 

On my 2003 Silverado 1500 HD, my speedometer is stuck, always pointing at around 90 mph. Has anybody else had this problem? The odometer works fine just like everything else. Is this an easy fix that an average DIY'er can do in his garage at home, or do I have to take her to the dealership or a shop?

 

If this is a fairly easy DIY'er, does anyone have a procedure they can share with me?

Sounds like a failing stepper motor.

 

You can buy a GM replacement off Ebay & resolder it to your cluster, or.....

 

Time for a Denali or Escalade cluster "upgrade".... These can be bought off Ebay (exchange) with your mileage already programmed in.

I just had my whole cluster rebuilt in my 04 Silverado. The stepper motors go bad. There is guys on Ebay that will do a complete rebuild for $100-$200. You just ship your cluster to them and they fix it. The issue I had was I didnt want to take it out, ship it to them and be without a cluster for a few days so I found someone local. It actually only takes them about 30 minutes to rebuild. They will put all new backlighting and replace all the steppers.
