2005 silverado 1500, 5.3l crew cab 4wd. Just put my third sensor on and was wondering if anyone else has had multiple problems with the sensor. First 2 were from autozone/advanced so i decided i would try the dealer one. Thanks.

you need to follow the diagnoses tree from the code that is present , as you have thrown 3 sensors at the truck ,,,,,,,

you have a different problem

what is the code ?

no code, just cranks over without firing. Dealer said same thing, can't do anything until it throws a code. first time it did it, i finally had a code for crankshaft longer than 3 or 4 seconds. works fine after i replace it for a few months.

Try disconnecting your pcm then reconnecting it; Not sure if this will allow you to do a crankshaft relearn since its not a different PCM with a different security code in it. Worth a try in case none of the pins are fully contacting......

I disconnected the battery each time i replaced the sensor for about 30 minutes each time. runs fine after replacing sensor each time. Got fingers crossed hoping i got a bad sensor.

You need to run the "relearn procedure" when replacing either the crank or the cam sensors. My mechanic used a "Tech II" machine, and ran the engine (in park) to 4k rpm, then let off the gas. As the engine RPM's decreased, the relearn (relationship between the sensors) were sinked (sp).

The only other thing in my mind is that you have a damaged or bent reluctor ring that sits in front of the cam sensor, which when rotating picks up the signal to send to the PCM.
