Mystery hose hanging

I was under my truc ktoday and noticed a hose that I never noticed before. It is the hose that plugs into the transmission that has the little plastic Y junction on it. Its still plugged in at the Y junction, and the end that runs to the engine bay has the little cap on it like its supposed to. But, where is the other end of it supposed run?

I had the trans rebuilt last summer and have not noticed the hose before, so Im hoping that it hasntunhooked too long and sucked in a bunch of mud and water from my frequent trips to the deer lease.

Here is a pic. Its the best I could get.

It doesn't go anywhere. One part of that "Y" goes to the transmission another part goes to the vent cap and the other just hangs in there. I would move it off of the drive shaft though. There should be a separate hose that runs up to the top of the bellhousing that goes back to the transfer case vent. Make sure that one it connected.

Yeah, everything else is in place. It just didnt seem right to me to leave a hose uncapped like that. Especially when there is potential for it to be submerged, like mine does from time to time. Its not hurting anything to go through frame-deep water with the hose in that position is it (Ive already moved it off the driveshaft)? Can I re-route it to a higher point without messing with any of the funtionality of the vent?

As long as you don't get it above the vent cap at the top of the bellhousing you should be fine.

that hose is there to keep the spewing fluids from a overheated trans/tcase from running onto a hot surface and igniting. position it so as to not have wind rush from under the vehicle blow it on the exhaust. shouldn't have any back flow problems. but you could source a one way check valve from a mower shop or someplace like that.
