2007 Sierra Brake Pads

Hello,

I recently purchased a 2007 GMC Sierra extended cab pickup. It has a lot of extras on it since it was my dad's but when I ordered a new set of ACDelco brake pads I didn't realize it had Stabiltrak or RPO JL4. Since I already bought ACDelco p/n 171-0974 can anybody tell me if they will work okay on my truck or should I buy the ACDelco p/n 171-0975 brake pads which their website calls for?

The break pads I bought seem to fit okay but the inner pad is a little tight. The existing pads I found have the same situation even though I have cleaned up the cradle and shims of any corrosion. I would have installed the non-Stabiltrak pads but the rotors are shot in the inside possibly from overheating from the stuck inner pads.

Does anybody know the difference between ACDelco p/n 171-0974 and p/n 171-0975? I contacted ACDelco support but they referred me to a local dealer who will most likely tell me to buy the correct part. I have also found that no other aftermarket company makes a different brake pad for Stabiltrak applications.

Any help would be most appreciated since I most likely can return the pads I bought even though they haven't been used.

There shouldn't be a difference between the two pads. The ones you bought will be fine. Check to make sure your caliper isn't seized, and clean/lube the slides and cradles.

Always had issues with pads and my '07 Sierra not fitting in the slides correctly, no matter who the manufacturer was. What I found was that once everything is cleaned up, you just have to sand the powder coat on the pad fingers just a bit. Just make certain that you clean and lube your caliper pins and you'll be ok. Raybestos makes a brake lube - comes in a tube. I think it's DBL-2. Any brake lube will work though. A lot of times your front brakes will vibrate, almost like your rotors are warped, when in fact it's your calipers not "floating" the way they should.

Thanks for the advice. Once I get the new rotors I will use the brake pads and see how it goes. Filing the pad fingers seemed to work just fine but it does seem odd you have to do it to begin with. I guess this is one of those 'joys' of owning a new car.

Erik
