Leaking Manifold

Recommended Posts

I picked up this '00 2500 last weekend , had been eyeballing up the truck for a month or so and had looked at it a few different times... test drive etc..and made sure it was in good shape. I finally went and made the deal.. happy happy happy ! I get about 10 seconds away from the guys house and the passenger side manifold just went to hell with a very pronounced tik.. I wheel the truck around and go back and demand my money back.. ( I really didn't want my money back.. it's only a manifold ) ... through all the squawking, he agreed to have it fixed on his dime.. ( which was my goal )

I've read that this a somewhat of common issue... stands to reason.. aluminum on steel.. so what I'm wondering is if I should suspect the other one to fail soon or not? Also, anything I should be watchfull for after the job is complete ( it's getting a complete manifold kit ).

Thanks

The bolts that attach the manifolds to the heads break off a lot and leak. That or the manifold splits. I wouldn't worry about it until it happens for the drivers side.

Your heads are cast iron btw... 1999 and 2000 have cast iron heads on the lq4s and then 2001 up has aluminum heads.

Right on, my mistake on the heads.. thanks.

Would a bad leak make the check engine light come on do you think ?

She's leaking horribly.. getting on my nerves actually. Nice shiny new (to me) truck and have to coast through town so nobody hears it,, :sigh:

Yes it could. You're also asking for other trouble possibly the longer you wait.

get it fixed or park it until you do, imho
