GM pickup reliability - better info

Recommended Posts

I wanted more up-to-date car reliability information that made the differences between cars clearer. So a few years ago I started getting people together to make this possible. TrueDelta now updates actual repair frequencies, not just dots, four times a year, to track vehicles closely as they age.

We've had good participation by GM truck owners, with over 750 signed up to help so far. But we'd like to fully cover each of the past 15 model years, and for this we need more owners involved. So I'm grateful to Zane for providing permission to post this thread.

Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, following the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, participants receive full access to all results, not just those for GM pickups, for free. I'll share results for the large GM pickups in this thread after each update.

So, how have these trucks been doing lately?

Our reliability stats for the Silverado now include owner experiences through March 31, 2015. (Others are nearly a year behind.)

In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year ("low" is best):

2013 Silverado : 22, low

2012 Silverado : 28, low, small sample size

2011 Silverado : 44, moderate

2010 Silverado : 0, low, small sample size

2009 Silverado : 55, moderate, small sample size

2008 Silverado : 40, low

2007 Silverado : 82, moderate

2006 Silverado : 34, low, small sample size

2005 Silverado : 35, low, small sample size

2004 Silverado : 68, low

2003 Silverado : 75, low, small sample size

2002 Silverado : 88, moderate, small sample size

2001 Silverado : 114, moderate, small sample size

2000 Silverado : 127, high, small sample size

Plus, the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2008 Silverado : 63, 4

No stat for a model year? Then we very much need more participants for it. Same for those with small sample size notes. Next updates in August and November.

Repair trips per 100 cars:

2013 Silverado: 18, low

2012 Silverado: 30, low, small sample size

2011 Silverado: 32, low

2010 Silverado: 0, low, small sample size

2009 Silverado: 63, moderate, small sample size

2008 Silverado: 52, low

2007 Silverado: 68, moderate

2006 Silverado: 38, low, small sample size

2005 Silverado: 31, low, small sample size

2003 Silverado: 68, low, small sample size

2002 Silverado: 62, low, small sample size

2001 Silverado: 105, moderate

If a model year's sample size is small, then we especially need more owners involved.

Wait until the 2014, 15, and 16 models are sampled. uggh. 2008 was a good year. I agree. I can go along with those ratings. I had an 08 Sierra 2500 Duramax. Only problems were the door lock actuators, leaky tranny cooler lines, and the paint rubbing off of the climate control buttons.
