my 08 crew cab has 62k on it. Im wondering if theres specific things I should be looking for as far as wear and tear? Also any maintenance I should do now? Im seeing some guys saying tranny flush, diff fluids and transfer case fluid. Im also seeing people say that the tranny isnt necessary yet. Then i see spark plugs and wires, but others say not necessary. I guess im more concerned because we are taking it 600 miles away from home next month so I want to make sure all is well. What do you guys recommend? Im definitely doing an oil change and checking the brakes. I know the shoes in the back are good because I just did them.

For what its worth.....my 08 crew 4x4 has 297K, all original . I have changed transmission fluid and filter every 50k, axles and transfer case every 100K, engine oil at 5K. For the big 300k coming up at end of the month, I will add in a brake fluid change. Spark plugs were changed at 110K, 180K, 240K - usually I'd feel, or code up, a misfire, then change plugs (and wires when needed). Plugs are lasting longer now that I upgraded valve cover with new PCV design. That cut out all oil consumption (i.e. fouling plugs) which was 3-4 qts between changes. Oil consumption went away with new valve cover design. The Govt Motors engineers decided in their wisdom to build in the PCV to the valve cover instead of the cheap check valve ball in old school engines.

Note: we have had some other 08 trucks in our small fleet that have fried transmissions at 150K because they have never changed fluid, ever. The 5.3 (with AFM turned off and valve cover upgraded) has proven to be a reliable engine. Oh, final word: I did have computer programmed to turn off AFM, lose a "bad cat" code after new cat was installed- probably didnt need to begin with, and tweaked some performance settings (shift points, etc.), mechanic said "once you get the govt out of this engine, it runs fine...."

Thanks for the info guys. Ive got a friend at a garage that does the full flush on the tranny. So ill be looking at having that done with a filter change and switch to synthetic. Also going to do differentials, engine oil, t-case with amsoil myself.
