2007 Tahoe - front rotors and pads change. Question....

Had the stealer do my last front pad change and spent almost 400$. Didnt want to do that again. Following the instructions on how to change the front pads and rotors now. got the parts from napa.

When I get to the section where I'm supposed to remove the torx/star (im told it depends on the build date) blt from the old rotor to remove it from the hub assembly - I find no such bolt. Nothing. As soon as the caliper and pads were removed - the rotor practically came off in my hands. Once the wheel is bolted back on - its not going anywhere of course - and i know that because i just travelled 30k miles without that bolt. But - how critical is it? Did the dealer just leave it out?

I thought you had to remove the caliper mounting bracket before the rotor would come off.. Could be wrong, me no have Tahoe. Silvy here..

BTW for reinstalling calipers - this is the best and most economical method - after you remove the old pads, take an old pad and place it on the piston just as it was before. Now take a c-clamp and place the flat portion on the old pad and the back of the c-clamp on the back of the caliper. Go ahead and tighten the clamp all the way pushing the piston back in place. Once pushed back it it will stay there - unless you depress the brake pedal. Reinstall new pads, place caliper back on and go.

youre correct - the bracket has to come off as well. I did that. Im just thinking that the "security bolt" should have been there. It was missing on both sides and it was clearly in the instructions. I have used that tip on the calipers. works great!

Sounds like someone else was working on the rotors, or the front of your truck before you. It is used to hold rotor on until the wheel i back on. Not needed, but you can buy new bolt from dealer.

Yes - i mentioned that in my first sentence. Must have been the dealer.
