Cruise Control and Varying Speed

2010, 2500HD 4x4 CC 6.0 - I'm wondering if the way my cruise operates is normal. Unloaded, set at 70 or really any speed, when climbing a hill the engine will labor until it drops 4-5mph then the transmission will downshift climb the hill and accelerate past the set speed by 4-5mph. In my old '97 Z71, it never deviated more than 1-2mph. As I'm typing this, I'm thinking it's more of a transmission shifting program issue more than the cruise. Does anyone esles truck act like this on cruise? Thanks.

My 2011 can be unstable too. Though it mostly seems to drop down mor than overshoot. Either way I'd say its normal. My Tacoma did the same thing, though much more drastically.

My Yukon will do about exactly as you stated, well it doesn't overshoot quite that far but maybe 1 or 2 MPH. My Ford works more like your 97 did it will only drop 1 or 2 MPH and never overshoots. I am sure it is just software in all the nannies that make that happen

She drops a gear on the hill and feels like I am on a space ship.... I do not like it so I only put it on when I am on level ground and take it off on Hills.

Feels like it is going to blow UP . BUT IT IS NOT A FORD 6 LITRE DIESEL........

Does that 2010 have 3.73 or 4.10?

Stock tire size?

I wonder if people with the 3.73 find a larger gap in the cruise speed control.

It has 3.73. It does not have stock tires/rims but the overall diameter is the same as stock.
