Intermittent Starting Issue

I have a 2003 GMC Sierra that is having issues starting at times. The truck runs for weeks or days fine then when you turn the ignition key all lights come on but nothing. If I wait a couple of minutes it will start fine and I may not have the issue again for weeks or months. The truck has been a great one and has 200,065 miles on it with almost no repair needed other than a new alternator I replaced a couple of years back. I can hear the fuel pump prime but not even a hit when I turn the key to start it. I've been looking at forums and seeing it could be anything from the PassCode security to the BCM. My thoughts are starter, Ignition switch, and now thinking BCM from other posts I've read else where. I'm reading that there are a lot of people with the same issues but can't find posts telling how they resolved it. I've also read people spend hundreds of dollars on professional repairs only to have the issue come back in a few months.

Any help or suggestions would be great.

Having this same issue with my 2010 Sierra Crew. Worked fine for 1 year then standed my wife - taken to shop and new battery installed under waranty. No issues for about 2 years then started happening again. New battery installed but problem is still occurring.

I have found out that rocking or jerking the truck while parked allows the problem to be temporarily fixed and allows the truck to start.

All electrical accessories still work but the truck ignition will not activate. Locked out from starting for some reason???

 

Any assistance? It has only occurred in cold (-20) weather so far.

Hit starter with a hammer lightly. But you need to get a new starter.

Or you could have corrosion on wires at the starter if so clean them.

Exact same issue with my 03 Silverado (300K miles),

Sometimes pulling out the key and re-inserting works, sometimes not...

I'll try the rocking trick when it happens next time.

My first suspect was the ignition switch. My fear is that something is "going out" and will eventually completely die all together, leaving me stuck like Chuck!

 

To the OP, did you ever track this down?
