Occasionally not starting

2000 Chevy 2500 6.0L. I have issues not starting occasionally. There is plenty cranking power, the starter will kick out like it's going to start but doesn't. Retry many times with same results.

I'll leave it sit for 5-10 minutes and it will start. This will happen once in awhile, 4-6 weeks. Last week it happened 3 times in 24 hours.

 

I changed the fuel pump/filter (what a project that is!)

 

Anyone have a solution to this starting problem?

I would have guessed fuel pump, but looks like that has been ruled out.
