height of 4WD vs. 2wd

Does anybody know if a 4X4 2500HD is the same height as the 2WD 2500HD. Chevy specs show same height but more ground clearance on a 4X4. How is that possible. My 2500HD 2WD fits in my garage but I am thinking about buying a new 4X4 and I wanna make sure it will fit before I buy. Thanks for the help.

I would guess either larger tires (as the differential is usually the lowest part of a truck) or different lower control arms.

The Ford's and Dodge's seem to have a substantial difference in height between 2x and 4x, but GM's appears less pronounced. I'd measure yours and then go to the dealer and measure one on the lot before I signed on the dotted line, but I'd be willing to bet there's gonna be some difference.

My 03 Z71 Silverado was surrounded by HDs and I had to look at the trucks' side to confirm which was HD and which was Z71, if that helps. The height looked the same.

I'd measure the garage door and see what you have to work with. That was definitely a consideration when shopping. Oddly enough, the Ram shortbox regular cab seemed as snug if not more than my ext cab Z71 does.
