5.3 cam bearing failure

Hi guys, Need to pick a few brains here. I have an 05 Silverado with the 5.3 Tvin. Started getting a steady chirp, chirp chirp. Sounded like the front of engine. Replaced the water pump and oil pump. Lord you gotta love pulling the front off and pan. Proudly cranked her up and chirp, chirp, chirp. Back in again. #1 cylinder intake lifter had chunks of roller gone andf had consequently ate the hell out of the lobe. Gee loved pulling the heads and degrees of angle??? Thanks GM for that one. Replaced the cam with dealer replacement and installed new Melling roller lifters. Assembled the engine once again. 15 miles later oil pressure drops to 3 or 4 pounds. Remove oil pan again, have brother slowly rotate crank with wrench while I admire (from beneath with a flashlight) "glitter" coating the crankcase interior. I finallly spot the culprit, # 3 cam bearing has spun and walked forward where it is being promptly shredded. Geez Louise, why me??? OK, here's where you guys come in. I located two engines one 5.3 and one 6.0, both complete under 40,000 miles. A friend of mine did some favors for the owner and put a price of 700 bucks on either. I don't think I could rebuild mine, new bearings in the bottom, seals, gaskets, etc. for that cheap. If I have to pull the block out why just do cam bearings, might as well do the works, know what I mean? Anyway, I know the 6.0 should bolt right up no sweat but what about the a/c compressor? computer? Would it be just a matter of drop it in and hook it up ? Thanks for checking out the comedy of errors. Russ

Is this a common failure? Just had mine into the dealer for an oil pressure sensor indication and the check engne light come on. The dealer technician said it is a common defect that is known by GM but of course no recall for something like this.
