Ok an update on the Rear-ending of our X-Terra.

Final $$$ tally: $800

Both Rear Shock absorbers, The spare tire holder, and a piece of the rear bumper (Aparrently it's a 3 or 4 piece assembly). And it's slightly a Different color than it's slightly older counterparts.

I got a bit of a rant, the body shop decided for some reason figured we might want the junk parts back, so they threw them in the rear cargo compartment and got grease spots on the upholstery.

Mom's P\Oed that they dirtied up the carpet. As for me, I'm just miffed at why they gave the pieces back? Much less deciding to throw them in there like that.

Doesn't that sound unusual to yall?

You'd think that if they were going to put the parts in there, they would bag or wrap them in plastic.  I know some shops that have given me mechanical parts back have done that.

I usually request the old parts myself just to make sure those parts on the invoice have been replaced and not "fixed enough" to use again.

I dont understand why those meatheads did not wrap them in plastic though...they should have enough of that around the shop.  I'd be p'd off!  Also you should NOT be able to notice a difference in paint color.  With a vehicle that is a year old, it should be perfect.  Sounds like a very shody body shop to me.  :smash:

Sounds pretty crappy and inconsiderate to me - their general attitude, I mean.  ???

Oh yea, if this matters, the body shop we used is owned and operated by the dealer that we bought it from.

Was that a good or bad idea? (I'm talking about BEFORE we took it in, and we didn't know that they were gonna do things the way they did. )

Generally the bigger car dealerships have good bodyshops.  I am wiring a body shop (#1 Cochran - VERY large GM dealer) now with Cat5e and I can tell you they are TOP notch....best equipment out there.  This place is huge...around 30-35 bays & a bunch of paint booths.

Now if you go to a smaller dealership, I'm sure they dont have the equipment like the larger ones, so...you can make your own opinion with that.

They put the Shock Absorbers in the boxes that the new ones came in, but left the boxes wide open, so they slid out when we made a turn.

The assembly for the Spare Tire Carrier however, was just put in there in a pile (it's a set of chains and a hub-like device that bolts on where the lugs go) sitting on the carpet.
