Bakflip Bak Industries Top Failing

I have a Bakflip that's less than 2 years old and the fiberglass panels are looking terrible. The fiberglass fibers are sticking up through the failed gel coat across the entire top. I took the truck to a local fiberglass expert (with over 30 years experience) and he confirmed that the gel coat has failed allowing the fiberglass to lift up and reflect light in an unsightly way. He said that the ONLY way to repair the fiberglass sections was to reapply a new gel-coat sealing in the fiberglass strands. I contacted Lauren at Bak Industries Warranty Dept. and their solution is to apply a liquid black trim restoring product. Unfortunately, I've used similar products on the black trim areas of the truck every 6 months or so. In my opinion, this is not an acceptable way to address the problems with this product failure.

Mine has the aluminum panels, so I'm no help other than to say that I believe there are good counterfeit BakFlips out there (not just a style, but right down to the name). Make sure of what you're buying.

I'm not trying to say anything bad about Bak Industries and I'm sure that they'll stand behind their product. I just wanted to put a "heads-up" out there and mine top is a "F-1 Heavy Duty" top.

Bak Industries stood behind the defective product and replaced it with a new Bakflip with the aluminum top. It's nice to do business with a manufacturer that stands behind their product.
