Hmm... that is definetly intriguing. I wonder what kind of HP gains you will really see. If an intake has been on a list of mods of yours for a while I would go for it. BTW, where did you get the coupon? I am definetly considering one, but I don't know if my Poweraid Throttle Body Spacer will affect it. When I looked at the K&N FIPK's I was told that because of the spacer, the FIPK would be pushed into the fan. Anyone know if this one will fit?

Who knows, maybe if enough people are interested, we could try to get a group purchase.

its been on my list of mods for awhile now.  I am getting a nice profit sharing check from work so I was thinking about treating myself to it.

So many mods so little time and money

Does anyone have the volant with the scoop?

I like the Idea of the scoop on the Volant  Seems to be the best of the open and closed intake types.  Even at 360 its a little pricey for me unless someone can convince me otherwise.  please please please convince me

I don't know if I would do that.  First that scoop is awfully low.  If you take it off road running through water that is bumper high I would imagine that you would be asking for trouble.   If you are going to run it on the street then ok.

I dont think water will be able to go up the tube.  I mean you will have to hit the water hole pretty darn hard.

I remember seeing where somebody, it might have been AEM, made a valve for cold air intakes.  It was installed inline between the intake and the filterbox.  When water was ingested the valve would open, take in air at that point and release the water.  If you are worried about water injestion maybe this would be the ticket.

looks like a good deal(set up), I've come up with and idea for a ram air intake for mine, using the turbo diesel bumper, but don't have the money or time. if you get it, post an update!

I have to agree with that somewhat. If I had a set up like that , I would always be looking at it to see if anything got in there. Just look at the bugs on your radiator and bumper. Just a little too open for me. For an all out street truck, it could be a different story.

Just my opinion.

I agree with you on that point.  I have gotten water and mud (too much for comfort actually) inside my airbox when offroading.  And that is with the air being pulled into the airbox from the stock location...I would not be confident at all having another passage for water to make its way into my airbox and induction system.

Still I think that the idea is pretty good, and if you aren't going to be doing alot of off-roading and won't be blowing through mud holes or fording any water (standing or flowing) , it is probably a good system.

I was forgetting you have a 4x4. if the tube is long enough, the mud would have to either be up to your bumper/axle, or be able to defy gravity pretty well to get into tour engine, since I'm hoping that has a filter close to the engine instead of close to the opening

Here's my opinion on the Volant intake, you can make your own for about $30 and save $350. I made made my own ram-air that basically looks like that using the stock air box. I cut a 4" hole in the bottom of the air box and lower mounting plate. Ran a 4" flexible duct down to the lower gray airdam under the bumper. Hooked up a scoop behind the hole next to the passenger side fog light and connected the duct to it. I had a K&N FIPK when I did the ram-air, the ram-air with the stock intake worked better than the FIPK. The truck was .1 seconds quicker 0-60 with the ram-air than the FIPK and the FIPK was about .15 seconds quicker than stock. I have two air boxes, one is modified, the other isn't. I've put the unmodified bottom back on the truck and you can definitly feel the power loss. I time my truck with a stop watch 0-60, the ram-air on my truck makes it quicker by about .25 seconds, that's big. I actually loose power using a K&N or other high flow air filter, I use a Purolator paper air filter. I don't get hardly any water in the air box when it rains, I've checked it after driving in some pretty heavy rain and the air box bottom has a few drops in it but the filter is dry. It doesn't suck up water, I don't think the vacuum on the intake is that strong. Even if the scoop did go under water, the two stock air holes in the side of the air box would pull in air. My truck is a 2wd though, so if you do any 4wheelin, then it could be an issue I guess. Now I don't know if the Volant box has another hole on it's box, if the only hole is on the bottom, then the scoop could pull up water if enough vacuum is created. I also don't have a heavy foot in the rain, so that keeps the intake from pulling in rain also. Guys have reported the filter in their FIPK units being real wet after it rained the water goes between the headlights and hits the filter. I've also had a UPD intake, it didn't work any better than the stock unit with the ram-air. I even felt a loss in low end power with the UPD, I believe the intake tube is to big and the intake doesn't pull as hard. I would do the ram-air to the stock air box and try and find an aftermarket intake tube. I found a guys selling one on one of the forums a while back, hooked right up to the stock air box. Of course, this is just my 2 cents.
