why do insurance companies do this BS?

saturday night we took my mom to the ER and found out she was in the process of passing a kidney stone, which we didnt get to know till after a lot of drugs and a cat scan. so now that everything is almost back to normal we have come to find out that my mom's insurance through the washoe county school district has been canceled since 1998. she says this was about the time she talked to them to see what it would take to drop it (they told me the plan was to move her to my dad's insurance at that time). so now they say she signed some papers and that she has no insurance which leaves US with all the bills from the ER and you know that cat scan is going to bankrupt us.

anyone up for a extremely hostile take over of an insurance company?

NeXuS1,

I'm sorry to hear about your Mom's dilemma. Are you sure tha the insurance company is the culprit here? It would seem that the county school district may be the problem.

If she signed papers, they must be on file somewhere. Something's fishy here.

If worse turns to worse, could the county department of social services (or some social agency) help with the emergency bill?

Good luck,

LT

If she signed up for it she should have copies of the forms involved.  If they cannot show some proof of her canceling coverage they should be liable.  Also, did she have any payroll deductions made for the coverage? If she did it is another proof that she had the coverage.  Just several thoughts, I deal with this stuff pretty regularly at work...

what it was if she wanted to know what it took. she never signed any papers or said she wanted to cancel it. once she found out that she lost all the benifits she said she would just keep it. my parents went down and talk to them. the company took a email for a request of information on who to call about it, as a request to cancel it.
