Strange box\Part number

ok

i got my 1999 silverado from my dad when he passed away.

he bought this part and i cannot find where it goes

its a small box, with a lid.. looks like it should go under the hood

part number is 15737693

can anyone help

This is what GM parts has for that part number. Does the box have a brand name? What does the part look like?

I just went to GMPartsDirect and in the upper left hand corner of the homepage, typed in the part number that was given.

Thats if you have a part number.

Its a small black box.. barely the size of the battery.. and says'GMTRUCK" on it.. thats it.. it also has a lid, which is hinged, but removable.. and it has one post comming out of the bottom, which lookslike it would bolt down

It is probably the little toolbox that they put under the hoods of the 1996 GM trucks. It was located in the same position opposite of the battery. You could put jumper cables, gloves, tools, misc in it. Pretty neat little box. They left them off in 1997-up trucks, though, I guess to save costs.

If your truck is a new bodystyle 1999 model, I doubt it would fit.

it should fit under the hood near the firewall on the passenger side. If you remove the fender brace it will fit in there. I've seen an install on Chane's site where the guy installed it and it worked great.

Glad I couold help you out. Can't wait to see what it looks like installed and painted to match.

You should consider (if you haven't already) Painting the plastic Vortec cover on the engine to match.

I did mine red to match the truck and I was very pleased w/ the results.

Here's one of the pics I could find of it... N/M the ripped apart truck I was installing the bodylift at the time.

That is odd because my dad's truck is a 1997 that he bought new and it did not come with the box. Maybe it was a mid-year change. His was a later truck. I personally have never seen a 1997 with the box in it, but apparently the exist. When was your build date?
