I purchased a 1500 sierra 4.3 v6 manual short box pickup (06) to replace my 011 Ranger pickup that got totaled this winter. The GMC doesnot have the pulling power of the Ranger that had a 2.3 engine! I'm affraid I won't be able to pull much of any thing with it! It seems to be geared awful high. What are my options, different gears, rear end swap, more horse power?

Agreed... The 4.3 v6 is a decent motor for what it is, it's a very large displacement v6... But if you wanted to tow heavier loads you should of not gotten a tall geared manual v6. What are you pulling?

I'll be pulling a trailer of 3500# with it.The Ranger pulled it well. The GMC seems like it struggles with 300# in the box let alone a trailer! If you don't wind up the rpm's it seem's to run out of power. 1st gear is fine,2nd okay 3rd you could hit 70 if you wanted to,4th if you get down to 35mph it starts to lug down,5th don't use it until you're going at least 50mph.So I think I'll be changing rear ends out.

It has drum brakes on the rear but I'd rather have disk's,but are they compatable with the system?
