Heated Seat Kit Problems

I had the GM heated seat kit installed by the dealer 11/11. I took it in yesterday because they were not turning on. I got a call and they say the module under the drivers seat is bad and they want $569 to fix. It sounded like a guess because he said they could not communicate with the module. I can buy a brand new kit for less than that. Does anybody have any suggestions? Does the module have its own part number? Is there anything I can check to eliminate components? Thanks in advance.

Did you buy the kit from the dealer? Doesn't it have a 12/12 warranty? If you carried in I could see them giving you a hard time.... anyways I had an aftermarket kit installed for $400 OTD. Small switches, looks professional, works with the remote start if you leave the seat on, works for me.

I bought the truck used and had the same dealer install the kit, bought everything from the dealer. 11/11 is November 2011 so it has been over two years. I thought about buying a new kit off Amazon ($322) and using just the module but I am taking a chance that the dealer had the right diagnoses.

Quick search on GmParts Direct yields a "control module" for less than $100, of course their shipping maybe $50+...lol. You could take gamble on that being the right one, there is only one as I recall. $500+ is yanking your chain.

Did this work kit work at one time?

If they can't communicate with the module, they can't communicate with it, sounds pretty cut and dried. As long as the module even has power.

The installation instructions are posted in here somewhere. You could use those to follow the power leads back to the area below the steering column where this module gets power and verify if the module is getting power. Keep in mind a new but unprogrammed module will not turn on the seats but will turn on the lights in the switches, again IIRC.

I knew I was in trouble when the dealer called and asked where the switches were located. I got a part number off of the module under the drivers seat. I also looked at my shop manual for a wiring diagram. The only thing it could be is the module. I will verifiy power tomorrow and then order a module from somewhere.

Actually it could be the module, the heating element, the wiring, or the switch that controls them. Given they say they cannot talk to it, would rule out the actual element being the reason they cannot connect to module. Also add in bad connections at any of the connectors.
