Shifter cable retainer clip ears broken

Recommended Posts

Posted

Just serviced the filter on my 08 Silverado. As I was removing the U clip off the cable that held the cable to the bracket that's attached to the transmission, the clips ears fell apart in my hands. I can't get the cable to stay attached to the bracket now.

Anyone have a solution that doesn't involve replacing the cable? It has zip ties now but they are very temporary.

I don't see why GM used such junk plastic in an area that sees heat from the trans and the exhaust.

I am too getting ready to service the transmission, I can see how fragile the shifter cable holder is. If the zip ties are working, may be you can use a metal wire and/or washer that can take more heat,

did you have to remove or bend the metal bracket to be able to remove the pan?
