Good deal on this 2001 GMC Sierra 1500?

I'm thinking about taking a look at this sierra tomorrow morning, it has a 5.3, 4x4, with 94k miles for $3500. The body looks in fairly good shape, he says it has some rust on the rocker panels and a few patches on the lower body from previous owner, also 4 new tires all around. But what do you guys think? I'm curious as to what that strip is on the back of the bed on the first picture, its like a matte strip going down the side.

Heres the link:

Price sounds pretty good, extended cab, 4x4 too. I would get underneath and take a good look at the frame. My 2001 is in worse shape on the rockers and my frame isn't good. The rear tail gate is mentioned as grey, probably primer, probably rear ended. The strips in the paint could be a result of that. You will have a better idea once you are underneath. Those rear box panels are pretty open from the underside. Check for rear disk brakes, they kind of sucked. If they are on it, ask about how far he is going before rebuilding them. I have trouble getting 15,000 miles out of rear pads and rotors. My fronts go 2 or 3 times that.

I have the 4.8l and around the same mileage regular cab, long box. It apparently is worth at least $3,500. That one is definitely work a look.

Low miles and not too rusty may be worth saving and def worth driving for that money if it checks out

I think you misunderstood me with the matte strip on the back, I meant on the side near the back of the bed, sorry for the bad wording, but if you look at the first picture, and about 1 foot from the back end, on the fender, theres a strip of what looks like a matte finish, makes me curious as to what it is

...looks to me like there might have been a wide vertical stripe on the box at some time that may have been removed or altered to be less conspicuous.

Thats what I was thinking it was, on the opposite side, the second picture, you can also barely see the stripe, but its there, so someone must of had two vertical stripes on the back

I paid $2500 for my 99 with about twice as many miles on it and the usual rust on cab corners and bed. Previous owner put some rhino lining over some of it, doesn't look too bad. It was used as a work truck and you could tell but it runs and drives great so that's the important thing. The engine with 94K miles is less than most truck much newer so that would be the selling point for me. 4 new tires is a nice bonus too. Its funny, I clicked on the cl ad and it was gone, so I assume you bought it or someone else beat you to it. I was going to look at a 2001 Silverado at a dealer for I think $5000 before I spotted the truck I have now and that truck had a lot more miles on it, over 200K. The low mileage engine definitely makes it worth it.
