What mods void warranties?

There are quite of few things that you can mod on your vehicle that will void the warranty. The question is whether or not the mod performed caused the problem/failure. I asked the question about my leveling kit before I installed it back in '09, the dealer & GM could only tell me....if you were to experience a problem or have a component failure and it is the result of you, the owner installing a non-OEM or aftermarket product then you will not have coverage under the original factory warranty....blah, blah, blah...

 

Something of that nature anyway.

So, the question to you is what do you plan to do to your vehicle? Then we can tell you a little more confidently of what may/may not void the warranty.

If you can get your mod done at the dealer then the dealer will warranty it. I have seen any mod you can think up done at different dealers. It cost more money but if your worried about your warranty that's where you go. You can check for dealer authorization for your mods. Sometimes worrying about you warranty cost more money and fun than if you just go for it, as long as you know what your doing. You can even blow your warranty if you change your own oil if you don't keep your receipts. I lean more to doing it myself, only had one warranty claim in 40 years so the odds aren't that bad.

I was told by my dealer than any sort of programmer/tuner, even if just to change tire size, will mark the system as modified and GM has/will give them a hard time with drivetrain warranty issues.
