Transmission Service

My 2000 Yukon is approaching 50,000 miles and I want to service the transmission soon. I have never done this procedure before, but I would like to do the work myself if possible.  I have several questions that I was hoping some of you who have done this work could help answer for me:

 

1. For regular maintenance, should I do a full flush or just drop the pan and do a fluid and filter change?  

2. What is the procedure for the full flush, and what tools do I need to do it?  My Haynes manual only seems to have the procedure for the pan drop/fluid & filter change.

3. I’ve read some posts about needing to change the pressure regulator boost vale and sleeve (about $50 in parts) because many of the 4L60E trannys have gone bad at 50K+ miles because of this part wearing out.  Is this necessary?  If I need to do this, what are the part numbers for these parts?  Has anyone else done this – if so, what’s the procedure?

4. What brand of ATF do you use?  I think I’d like to go with a synthetic…

5. How many quarts ATF do I need for the full flush or for just the pan drop?

6. What brand filter do you use?  What is the part number for it?  Do I need a special filter to go with synthetic ATF?

7. What is the part number for the pan gasket?

8. What kind of gasket sealant should I buy – obviously something that’s not permanent, right?

9. What kind of solvent do I need to clean the pan with?

10. Are there any other parts (other than fluid, filter & filter seal, and gasket) that I need for the job?

 

I know this is a lot of questions – thanks for helping me out.  Since this is my first time doing this job, if you have done this before and have any advice, tips, etc. that you think would be of help, I’d love to hear ‘em.  Thanks!

Can anyone help out with my questions in the above post?  Also, I read on another post that the issue in #3 is jsut a way for transmission service companies to make money -- a reputable tranny shop said it's not a problem.
