K&N filtercharger installed

I bought a K&N drop in filtercharger and put it in tonight. Other than the throaty intake sound has anyone noticed an increase in gas mileage or power? I have one in my 2001 Mitsubishi Galant and I noticed a huge difference above 3500 rpm.

I have heard mostly bad stories about K&N aircleaners and the FIPK systems from others on this board, does anyone have it in a 6.0 with the large capacity air cleaner?

Well I can definately say without a doubt that it makes noise. That's about it. I've actually noticed a decrease in mpg but maybe because I'm using my extra 2hp that the kit gave me.

I took the K&N out of my '98 because of mileage drop. Put stock paper back in and mileage came back up. I personally saw no power gain with the K&N drop in.

How about gains by adding the whole kit, Air intake and special open box?

I have ran a K&N Drop In ever since I got my truck, so I dont know if it gave me any better gas mileage or hp becuase I didnt drive it very much at all with the paper filter in it. I am getting 17mpg right now and that is using 4x4 at least once a week if not more, and I am happy with that. As far as HP gains I dont think they give you very much at all, but the reason I bought mine is so I wouldnt have to buy a $15 paper filter every time. The K&N has already paid for itself.

I put a FIPK in my '02 Z71 and noticed a small gain in power; it is however a decent amount quicker. I lost mpg mostly b/c i've had a heavier right foot ever since i installed it!

K&N filters will likely drop the gas mileage 1-2 MPG. You will only see an increase in power near and at Wide Open Throttle. Thats the only time the "restrictive" paper causes any reduction in power.

Why is it that you lose mileage with the K&N filter over paper??? ??? :thumb:
