Recalls & how they should be handled?

Just noticed another recall for GM covering 2007-2011 HD trucks.

Vehicles Affected: About 9,400 model-year 2007-2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 and GMC Sierra 2500/3500 pickup trucks equipped with the auxiliary battery option

The Problem: The owner's manual for the recalled vehicles does not specify a maximum amperage rating for the auxiliary battery feed to a trailer harness. An electrical overload of the auxiliary battery feed may cause the underhood fusible link to melt and damage nearby wiring. GM is aware of six fires and 10 incidents of melting, all handled through warranty coverage.

The Fix: Dealers will inspect the affected vehicles, make the maximum amperage information available and replace any damaged parts for free.

What Owners Should Do: Contact your local Chevy or GMC dealer, or call Chevy at 866-694-6546 or GMC at 866-790-5700.

Was going through the comments below the article & found all sorts of things other companies either refuse to recall or worse, recall them & NOT fix the vehicles.

Seems to me GM is cleaning the cob webs out of every corner for BOTH New & Old GM. Do remember some lawyer speak in years past about some Impala steering/suspension components not covered due to them being built by Old GM. CEO Mary Barra seems to be changing all of that. Interpret this how you want, whether to bash & find fault OR see that they are fixing/updating everything knowing the media is in the wings ready to bash.

This is significant when you realize what & how other companies handle their recalls.

Chrysler made headlines last year when it refused to recall the 1993 to 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2002 to 2007 Jeep Liberty at the request of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Chrysler eventually gave in and devised an acceptable recall for the close to 2.5 million SUVs, but now more than a year later, no vehicles have been repaired.

& this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0u1JcMxE8hY

Funny how when it is a Ford product, the headline reads that it is a supplier issue. Yet when it is GM, it is wholly a GM failure.

& Chrysler must have bought some ignition switches from GM right?

Honda air bags? http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/07/04/us-autos-takata-airbags-idUSKBN0F90IU20140704

The point to all of this is the list is infinite to ALL brands domestic & imported. GM is & has been the poster child of bailouts while Chrysler & Ford never receive quite the same blame & it continues to this day with the recalls. GM will continue to receive head lines for recalls while the rest will only be known to the owners or a small paragraph on a auto web site/forum.

My concern is that it is only a temporary thing 'til GM is out of the head lines.

Next thing is the pressure to stay competitive.

What I mean is that GM's recalling millions of vehicles (and still adding more) and at the same time they want to keep up with the new products.

I'd like to see GM to take care of the existing vehicles and "clean them up" rather then trying to put more and more technology they obviously can't handle into it.

Maybe it is an "age thing" but I'd rather wait a year or two for a new radio what is able to wipe my a** and buy a well designed and engineered and RELIABLE car/truck instead (with a functioning radio).

GM needs to focus more on quality control and less on pushing substandard products out the door. They want to redesign all their models when they can't even keep up with the previous models. I guess they will learn the hard way that having the "all new whatever" with tons of "all new technology" doesn't mean much if it's constantly in the service department eating up all your profits.

Many of these recalls should have been released a long time ago.

But that just my take on it.
