Pinging in 4WD

I'm trying to find out if anyone has had this happen: My engine (4.8) started "pinging" on acceleration at 15K.   After the dealer replaced the 2 knock sensors it was still there. Then they decarboned the engine, again with no change. At this point they said GM told them it was piston slap which is normal, etc, etc. I got a 6 year warranty on the engine and figured I would put up with it since it was not real noticeable, only on hard acceleration. With the storms we been getting I been using the 4WD and notice that the "pinging" noise is MUCH more pronounced when even mildly accelerating in 4WD. I will be taking it back in to the dealer, but I know the answer will be it is 'normal"! I'm trying to figure out why it would ping more in 4x4. All I can think of is the added power required to turn the front axle is causing the pistons to slap more. This really sucks since otherwise this truck is great. Anyone got any ideas?
