Resetting battery light in message center 02 Sierra

We replaced our altenator and battery in our 02 GMC Sierra and have been running it for 5 months with no problems, BUT the battery light on the dashboard message center won't shut off. What do you have to do to reset it to get it to stop blinking?

I think that there was a couple different designs on the alternator. Did you check the harness connector and pin connectors on the alternator to see if they were the same as the original and compatible? If you didn't get your alternator from a dealer you might have to check with a dealer to see what alternator your truck calls for.

Try unplugging the battery for a few hours. If that doesn't cure it delete the code with a scanner. If the code re-appears search the code online for fixes

The IPC illuminates the charge indicator in the message center when the following occurs:

1. The PCM detects that the generator output is less than 11 volts or greater than 16 volts. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
2. The IPC determines that the system voltage is less than 11 volts or greater than 16 volts. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the body control module (BCM) indicating the system voltage.
3. The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds.
4. The ignition is on, with the engine off.

I'd get a meter and check the output of the alternator for starters.
