08 Silverado. Fog lights. No switch?

I recently purchased a used 2008 Silverado. The vehicle has fog lights in the front bumper and the wiring to the lights but is has the headlight switch without the fog light switch. Was there some kinda recall or repair required to change the switch? I searched online and both types of head light switches are available.

The fog light button should be next to the dome light override and the cluster dimming switch or someone just did something funky

Ah. Someone did something funky because the headlight switch below the dimmer knob doesn't have the fog light switch just the dimmer indicator. When I went under the front bumper I wasn't expecting the wiring to be there for the fogs? Should the fog light switch just plug and play?

common old school trick was to use the running lights as a trigger.... so that you could have the amber lights on and fogs come on at the same time before fog lights were standard. I used to have it setup that way in both of my pre-computer vehicles.... pull the light switch back one click on the 78 monte carlo and the running lights plus the fogs/driving lights came on.

i suspect, somebody installed an aftermarket relay and used the drl's or the running lights as a trigger :-) you could always add a switch in the ground or hot to break the circuit whenever.

If you wire them correctly, the switch will indeed be plug and play.

I pulled the switch out and there appears to be the wiring and the connector to attach to the fog light section of the switch.

So the wiring was ran correctly and is just sitting behind the panel? If so, hop on ebay and snag a switch.

Yes it appears that the wiring is there. The gauge cluster seems to have the indicator light. I am going to check out a wrecker this weekend and see what I can find there.

I have a 2010 Sierra that did not come with the fog lights. The kit from GM Accessories supplies the two lights, harness to connect the lights to the fuse panel, and a headlight switch. The wiring from the fuse panel in engine compartment to the headlight switch was already installed. It has been a few years since I installed them, but, I think the headlight switch without the fog light switch did have a socket for the harness to plug into. The socket was not wired for anything, it was just a spot to attach the not used fog light wiring to. Similar to the DIC wiring harness being connected to a matching socket just to keep the wires near where they need to be.

On your truck, do the fog lights have correct weatherpak connectors on them? Does the wiring look like factory wiring, or does it look like home made wiring? Should be easy to tell factory wiring apart from non-factory wiring. The harness that came with mine included the clips built into the harness to attach wiring to body panels as it was routed to fuse panel.

It would be odd for someone to go to all the trouble of installing factory components, then not swapping the headlight switch. Silverado's that did not come with fog lights required new bumper end caps to install lights.

Now that you mention it I think you're right. Seems like maybe I only had to run a wire to the fuse block.

With my experience in the auto industry (9 years as a Toyota service writer) I would have to say it all looks factory done. The wiring has all the protection behind the bumper.

When I found no switch I expected there to be bulbs but no wiring behind lights. It appears to only be missing the switch.

thanks everybody. I know this was a old conversation, but helped me tons after buying 30$$ light bulbs that seemed to replace what seemed to be perfectly good light bulbs.
