Truck Stalling

My truck acted a little strange for the first time. It stalled twice right after I started it. Was still in park and it was idling at less than 500 rpm. Had to keep my foot on the gas to shift out of park. Never did that before. Hasn't done it since (about 4 more starts). '99 Z71 w/5.3 and 54K miles. Anyone else have this happen? Anyone know why? ???

Haven't replaced it yet. I bought the filter. Just waiting for the weather to warm up. Wouldn't I notice lack of power on accelleration? Power feels the same as usual.

my first guess would be fuel filter also.  Have you changed it at all in the 54K miles?  I know after i changed mine at 29K miles i could feel a slight difference

Mine had like a two day period where it would die after I started moving.  After I changed the oil the problem never came back.  That was running MobilOne Synthetic.  Can't quite remember what viscosity I was using at the time.

I had this same problem with my 2000 Yukon a while back; it would sometimes stall on startup and sometimes when I stopped at a light.  The problem was that the throttle plate was sticking.  This is an easy fix -- and if you haven't done it yet at 54K miles, you should do it anyway.  You need to take some throttle body cleaner, spray it on a rag, and clean out the carbon build-up in the throttle body around the throttle plate.

This worked like a charm for me, and I haven't had this happen since. I think I read or heard somewhere that you should do this every 30K miles or so.  I've added it to my list of regular maintenance items to check it at 30K intervals and clean again if necessary.

You can get the throttle body cleaner for $2 at any auto parts store.

Hope this helps.

Still have the original fuel filter in there. Guess I need to change it. We're getting a heat wave here this weekend 50-55F so I'll try that tomorrow. I'll clean the throttle plate while I'm at it. Thanks for all the input.

My '00 Silverado stalled once when going around a bend.  It just completely shut down and I lost all power steering/brakes etc...  (kinda scary).  The dealer did a "flash" on the computer and it never did it again.

My 6.0L in my current truck, wouldn't start one time unless I kept my foot on the gas.  I had to drive with two feet to keep it running.  I shut it off at Walmart and when I came back out, it was fine...

LOL, looks like you have a list of things to do this weekend.  I guess just start with your regular maintance items as mentioned above.  They will improve your trucks performance even if it does not resolve that problem.

Mine did this for about 4 hours of drivng immediately after I straightpiped my truck.  It eventually went away after the ecm "adjusted for the changes" :D
