As the subject point out I have a 2007 cadilac escalade with a 140K on the clock and I am starting to get what appear to be a VVT system failure. I am prepareing for the worst as I have not tried to read the oil pressure on a scan tool yet since I can not get it on dash. As much as a cam gear assembly, cam valve, cam magnet, chain and all the gaskets cost plus the amount of labor I am thinking about just buying a pullout engine since I have already thrown alot of money on this engine's oil leaks and other problems. My question would my ECU know the difference if I droped in a L94? I am not trying to add AFM to the truck it is just that L92 are a lot harder to come by with low miles since they were not in a very many trucks compared to the L94. I figured the AFM vavle rests on V8 mode and my ECU would not know what to do with and just plain ignore it. Are my assumptions correct? Either way I need the truck to last another 60K and just want to spend the extra money for piece of mind on a 40k pull out. Hell I even thought about removing the VVT and getting the ECU tuned with out it.

Also at this point I would not mind putting a 5.3 if it would work, just depends what is available locally.

Dealer time.

With the quotes I have seen for this job, no way. It is over 10 hours labor which could put upwards 2K which is damn near 50% of a pull out.

Big question is can I replace the valve through the timing cover? from my diagrams it apears to be open once the magnet is removed.

Been working on engines for years, and this is the first I've heard of a "WT" system ...

With that in mind, I'd find another engine WITHOUT the fancy, failure prone parts, install it, and be on my way. Just my .02 ....

I think he meant VVT, as in variable valve timing.
