AC fan not working

2003 GMC yukon 4.8

 

For about a couple months now, my level 1 on the fan of 4 is not working. 2 and up works, but not 1. What could be causing this? Bad fan? If so, how do I get to it? Do I remove the whole dash? Help please...thanks

Bad resistor block, or whatever they call it now. There is a part (normally located in the heater box) that has various resistors on it. This block is used to get the various voltages to power the fan at various speeds. Chances are the block has one section burnt out. The block is usually rectangular, and has 5 or 6 wires plugged into it. If the fan runs at second speed, and at high speed, then it will also work at low speed, provided it is getting power sent to it.

Yup, blower motor resistor. Less than $75, even cheaper on RockAuto.com

 

And yes, it's under your glove box. 10 minute fix.
