My deep dark secret

I took my HD over to the garage today to get some service work done and to have it's first oil change.  My dealer does all his loaner cars through "Enterprise" rental car company.  Enterprise takes it upon themselves to supply you with a vehicle similar to what you are having serviced.

Obviously they wouldn't have a crewcab HD sitting around so when they delivered my vehicle it was a.....

2002 F150 XLT excab 4x4

I told the guy I would've rather had a Geo Metro but I took the truck anyhow, and after sneaking home with it I quickly parked it in the garage and shut the door.  I feel so ashamed...  :)

I :inlove: Enterprise!

Man, they gave us a Metro one time, and it was the first "New car" we've ever driven that broke down.

But other than that one car, they're cool guys. They'll give ya a free upgrade if they don't have the type of car you reserved.

Shaners:

You may need counseling as a result of having a Ford in your garage.  Just keep repeating:  It's only temporary...It's only tempororary...!   :D

I am so sorry :) I am sure you are going through withdrawals already and can't wait to be driving a real truck again...if there is any upside to this, at least they didn't give you a tundra.

Again, I say road trip.  Use all 15 miles you can on it before it breaks down.

How much service work are you having done that you need a loner for?  Must be quite a bit, considering it is only a 3000 mile truck.  Never gotten a loner vehicle while having anything serviced, so I can't comment on what we've gotten.

My opinion of the truck...

There is way too much wind and road noise.  The driver seat is too hard and too close to the floor board.  My 6 year old daughter barely fits in the back seat behind her 6'1" dad.  The AM/FM/CD is weak and has poor sound quality.

On the other hand, the paint is pretty good and the 5.4L has no problem spinning the tiny 235/75/16 rear tires, but it doesn't feel quite as peppy as the 5.3L or 6.0L.  The tranny shifts well (I'm glad they finally addressed that problem), but there is some gear noise in the cabin in first and second gears.  This truck has the floor mounted 4x4 and it engages very smoothly and there is only a small hint of noise that you are in 4x4 mode.

And finally it fits in my garage easier than my 2500HD crewcab!!!

ford shifiting probs?  the 96 burb gear hunted ALL the time!!

my seats are fine, and the stereo in mine has been slightly modded

BTW - what stereo does it have?  the premium ones in my trucks are great, but the other ones are crappy

Jp,  I'm having the steering wheel re-aligned, I'm shooting for a one-piece driveshaft because of a slight driveline shudder when I take off from a stop, and my transfer case engages very abruptly sending a strong jolt through the chassis.

Since I have to be at work by 5:50 AM I need to have transportation, and my wife needs the van for work and dropping the youngest off at the sitter.  So therefore GM buys me a rental truck for however long it takes!!!
