Service 4wd in cold weather

seems like this age old GM feature comes with the new Canyon

 

in cold weather if you turn the truck off in auto, the next start will show service 4wd and the truck will be stuck in 4wd and only the auto light will light up, have had the tccm re learned and worked until the next cold night, again shut off in auto.. now stuck in auto..goes back tomorrow. kind of sucks the biggest selling feature of going to the gmc from the chev for a Canadian driver is the auto 4x4 and it doesn't work in the cold, and it seems like something GM hasnt addressed in previous generation vehicles either
