WOW, it's good to be back.

I just spent 37 1/2 hours with no electricity, which wouldn't bad except it is the only source of heat in these apartments we're in that have no insulation.  And the last 48 hours with no cable or internet.

We lost all power and heat at 9 o'clock Sunday Morning and got it back about 10:30 Monday Night.  It was so cold in my apartment Sunday night that when I took the ice out of the freezer that had fallen off the top and sides from not having power it did not melt in our sink.  My wife stayed with a friend, but I needed to stick around because I hel run the building here.  I slept in a tee-shirt, long-sleeve t-shirt, and a sweatshirt, wearing a tobogin and with two blankets and I still froze and could not sleep.

I could deal with no power if we had other heat, but when there was 10 inches of snow on the ground Sunday morning and we had absolutley no heat it sucked.  We put about 120+ miles on the Blazer driving around because thats the only place we had heat.  We spent 1 1/2 hours in Wal-Mart lst night and only got one thing that was $0.88 just because we didn't want to leave the heat.  It wouldn't have been nearly as bad if the power compnay would've given us a realistic estimate, but they kept saying it would be a couple more hours at about 8a.m. Monday morning and we didn't get it until 10:30 that night.  And the fact that they would not even come look at it Sunday when it went out and they said 500+ students with no heat or power was not a priority and were not even going to come Monday morning until the College President pulled some strings.

I felt really out of touch not being able to keep up with the war too.  But it's ok now, and I have alot of cacthing up to do on CNN and on this forum.

OK, I'm done complaining now.   :jester:

That's bad man.  But try going without it for a week in the middle of December.  I was one of the last in area to get mine back, and I work for the darn power company! :jester:

Man that sucks!  Glad to have ya back tho. :thumb:

Gotta say though, I'm kinda suprised you don't have a sub-0 sleeping bag.  Mine has saved me on more than one occassion. :jester:

I could've handles better before we spent three weeks in a row with 50+ degrees and this came out of nowhere, we were totally unprepared.  And if we had ANY other source of heat, but we had ABSOLUTELY NO Heat.

As for the sleeping bag, I do have one, but it is stored at my parents house.  We live in a two room apartment and have very little room for storage.

If we did have the storage I'd keep the sleeping bag and a kerosene heater here for these cases.

Man that stinks. When I build a house it will have a wood stove. I know you cannot have one in an apartment. Lived in Maine to long to feel comfortable in the cold weather without one.

I hate it.  My parents have a coal/wood stove in their house, and they don't use it very often anymore (they used to use it as the main source of heat), but mine when the power was out there for a few days they had it and it saved them.

Of course no longer than our power was off we could've maybe been ok if we had any insulation in this place, but we have none.  So as soon as the heat went out all the heat we had went right out of the apartment and we were screwed.

    • Curious, did anyone ever get a fix for the vibration reported here.   I have a 2024 Silverado with 6.6 duramax.   I’m noting the same vibration resonating up through the steering shaft into the steering wheel.    Best way to describe- like someone is tapping on the steering shaft/components and it’s resonating into the steering wheel.    thanks.
    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions?
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
