AC pump died or is not engaging. Checked fuses and all looked good.

Anyone ever replace AC parts? I have no experience with this and I'm not sure if it's something I should try.

I don't believe there is a way for you to safely discharge the system, somebody at a shop would have to do this as a minimum...

I was kinda thinking that. bummer.

Died on the way home 2 days ago, when it was in the 90's.

about five years ago my a/c system had a leak at the OEM Delco compressor. I did the research on recommended parts to replace and purchased a new Sanden compressor w/ oil, accumulator, orifice tube/valve, new schrader valves (high & low side), and 3 cans of freon. I purchased a set of A/C gauges from Harbor Freight and a good quality Robinair vacuum pump. Must have done everything right since I haven't touched the A/C system since.

It's easy enough to discharge the freon out of the A/C system. Locate the low side schrader valve and push on it with a screwdriver. While it's technically against the law, odds are, you're system is most likely out of freon anyways.....

The gauges and vacuum pump cost me about $275 total and the A/C compressor with parts was another $300 if not mistaken.

If you have a leak, the compressor will not engage below a certain pressure. There is a 2 prong connector on the cylinder on the passenger side firewall, next to the coolant tank. Short this connector on the wire side with a paper clip and turn on your ac. If the compressor kicks on, you are low on coolant.

If you are low on coolant, you have a leak.
