Trailer Brakes

Our cable plow trailer lost it's brakes.  We have contnuity from the plug blue wire all the way to the hubs.  Lights work brightly so ground is good.  We had to quit because of the rain.  Do the brake magnets go bad?  How far down can they wear before it wears into the magnet wiring?  They don't look too worn but I don't really sure what is too much.   ???

Easy way to check... take the tire off and use a wrench to see if the magnets still work.. I have seen an RV dealer do this.. You have someone apply the brakes and put the wrench up to the magnet.. If it does not pull the wrench strongly to the magnet then they are no good... The do wear out over time... Depends on how high you have them set and how much you tow...

Thanks for the reply.  It looks like it is the magnets.  I didn't want to pull the wheel and expose the bearings in the rain.  It seems a little odd, both magnets look OK but 12v going in and a good ground but both of them open??  Life is strange.
