iPhone issues?

So my iPhone 5s has issues charging/ being connected to the USB port in the center console. Starts to charge then stops.

I can move the line and it'll work and then stop again. So I thought it was the charger cable but it works fine when I'm plugged into my 12v outlet

It could still be the charging cable. The shielding ground may be severed inside and the USB port isn't providing the needed ground that the other slot does. Use a different cable and see if it still does it. A new one will probably work fine.

You've got a number of items involved here that you have to potentially identify as the problematic one.

 

Have you tried connecting to a different USB port (the "neighbor" one to start, then elsewhere in the truck - there's one in the upper glove box)?

Have you tried a different cable?

Have you tried using a 12V charger with the cable you're using when you have issues?

Is the phone in EXACTLY the same position in the truck when trying these various options?

Seemed to be something with my cable. The one giving me issues would work fine with the 12v plug in.

 

I changed cables and I think it's better now. I'll try this for a few days to make sure

That's what I figured. With the ground being provided by a wire mesh these cables don't last very long.
