3" BODY LIFT

I am pretty sure that this Summer I will be getting a Body lift from Performance Accesories.  I was wondering if there are any drawbacks to the Body lift other than it is not a suspension lift and will not help off road.  Will I notice a big Center of Gravity change?  I also want to get an off road type shock for standard ride hight.  Would an air adjustable system work good so I can have stiff or soft setting for on and off road?  Like the Rancho 6500 or 9500 shocks.  Not really sure of the name but you know what I mean.  And finally I will get bigger tires.  I was going to get 265/75R16 but if I get the lift I will probably want larger tires.  What can I get that will fit on the Factory wheels?  I like the look of the stockers.  Thanks for any and or all info you can give.

A 3" lift will be fine...  I'd say that 285's would be fine, and maybe 305's, but the stock rim is pretty narrow to carry that much tire.

The truck should handle fine since you are changing shocks.

The biggest drawback of a body lift vs. a suspension lift is you will be exposing 3" more of frame when you look at the truck from the side.

Your ground clearance is more directly related to tire size rather than type of lift and how high you go...  The lowest point on the truck will be the bottom of the rear differential.

Thanks shanners.  So will 285's fit the stock wheel?  About the frame from the side.  I have the stock Running Boards and should hide most of it.  It will just be the back wheel well.  And I will just get the skirts for there.  I can't belive how inexpnsive the lift is.  Only thing that stinks is the expense of tires while I lift it.  What kind of shocks do you all recomend?  I am not brand loyal so anything will go.

If you wanna cover up those ugly exposed frame rails, get some nerf bars.  I did a 3" PA body lift on my z and it's not as bad as people say.  Another advantage vs. a suspension lift is that when you do a body lift, you only lift the body and not all the other components like in a suspension lift so your center of gravity isn't affected as much.

chvythnder.  I have the factory running boards but I think that The nerf bars are in order since the things make the truck look like a soccar mom vehicle.  I really dont care about what people say about the body lift.  I would love the susp lift but I don't have that kind of money.  You said that you put the lift on your Z.  What year and do you have any pics?  If so I would like to see them.  And that is so true about the CG.  Never thought about that.

I have the 3" PA body lift and I think it looks great.  As for the side rails showing, the 2500 hd has them showing as well from the facory as you look under the drivers or passengers door.  I also have the 285 on the stock rims and again it looks really good.

Eventually I would like to get a suspension lift.  I'll probably go with the 6" once I save the money up but I was looking in a magazine the other day and saw that they offer a 9.5".

Hey Brandon,

I plan to install my PA 3" lift around the 15th or the 16th of May (after Finals).  I will take lots of pictures, I'll probably make a gallery on MCT, similar to the Rack gallery.  Let me know if You want pictures of anything inparticular of the process.

If you could take some pics that would be great.  Especially the Shifter linkage and the Fan and radiator.

As for tires.  I only have so much money.  Plus I want to upgrade my wheels eventually so I will wait for the real meats till then. :thumb:

What does the hitch and spare look like if you do a 3" body lift?  ???

Relocating the spare tire winch tube using the Winch Tube Bracket (the silver clamp thing holding the tube to the crossmember), that is supplied in the kit.  The tube ends up being behind the license plate, which now has to be removed to lower/raise the spare tire.
