Line-x sprayed over tie down covers

You are correct, most shops do not spray over the access panel without removing it. But a lazy shop regardless of brand will spray the tailgate and access panel together. I just figured since the OP was having issues with the caps they might as well check the tailgate.

It isn't always about lazy, though... And the "training" is to prevent loss, not "do the right thing." My local Line-X dealers won't spray over the tailgate seal but they will absolutely spray right over the caps in the bed unless you ask them not to. Why? Because almost no one cares about the caps after the fact and MANY people will come back about the tailgate. So, Corporate "trains" them to not spray over the access panel.

I agree that a lazy shop / installer, regardless of brand, may well seal up the tailgate without a care. Especially if, in their direct clientele, no one cares about the gate and tells them to spray over it.

In my opinion spraying over anything that can be removed is laziness. Doesn't matter if you are trained a certain way or not. Removable parts should be removed so the job looks as professional and clean as possible. This is one of the reasons why I like my local Line-X dealer in Tuscaloosa, AL. They always make sure to remove the plugs in the bed, bed lightning and so on. Attention to detail is a huge concern for me especially when your paying $500-600 for a bed liner on a new truck.

I take a tremendous amount of pride in my work as I believe it is a representation of who I am as a person. When a business owner feels and acts similarly, they create relationships with customers like you have with your local dealer. If more craftspeople felt this way, we wouldn't be willing to buy the cheap imported junk versions so we can afford to buy ten of them over the years.
