Line-x sprayed over tie down covers

I knew I shouldn't have let the dealer take care of things before delivery. I specifically asked if LineX knew to pop off the tie down covers before spraying and the response I get is they are the only LineX in Des Moines Iowa for all dealers...they know what they're doing...

Ran into the LineX dealer at the state fair and he said I could score around them and drill a hole to pop them out or they could do it for $70.

Is it worth me paying to do this? I don't want to do it myself in fear of making a janky cut or having the knife slip on me and have it messed up than just living with how it is now.

I would go back to the dealer and tell them they can eat the cost since they said that the linex place "knew what they were doing". Either that or do it yourself and if it comes out terrible they have a warranty on it so they can respray it

Back to dealer with a few "dumbasses" thrown in the middle of that conversation.

mine did the same thing, if you don't want the dealer hassle, just take a new razor blade and cut the perimeter of the plug, I had to make the cut twice to get through the liner, if you booger the cut a bit the tie down will cover it unless you get really wild with it. A razor blade is better than a knife.

you will then have to pry the plug out with a screwdriver probably or drill a hole in the plug as someone else suggested and pry it out with that hole.

From what I've seen, spray-on bedliner dealers spray over those caps because most people don't use them. So, if you want something different, you need to just tell the dealer. Also, I've been told that if you remove the caps, apply the bedliner, and then try to reinstall the caps, they don't fit back in very well.

My truck had the spray in liner when I first saw it on the lot, the caps were uncovered and snap in securely with the lined bed.

I have removed 4 to attach tie downs and the remaining ones are snapped in securely.

So it can be done properly by an outfit that's knows their stuff.

If the bedliner is the proper thickness at 90 to 125 mils, then the caps will not fit back in. If the bedliner is thin, say 30 mils, then the caps will go back in. So, take your pick.

You are definitely not the first person to run into this issue. Although as I have said before you local Line-X dealer should of done a proper job and removed the plate on the tailgate as well as all the plastic caps inside the bed. If you haven't already check and make sure the plate on your bed that has the 6 screws in it was removed as well before spraying. If not they'll need to respray the plate and tailgate as well as the holes. Personally, I would go back to the dealer and tell them the Line-X job is shit and you had voiced your concerns previously and this needs to be addressed immediately. Below is a picture of the tailgate portion I am was referring to earlier.

On the tailgate the section that has the 6 black screws is supposed to be removed before being sprayed. Make this was done properly as well. It seems like most of the time if the bed caps were not removed neither was the tailgate panel.

Go back to the dealer and talk with the person that told you the Line-X guys "knew what they were doing". Tell him that you're expecting them to get the truck back to the Line-X shop to have the plugs removed, the openings around the plugs properly sprayed, and to provide you with 11 new plugs (9 oval, two round) to replace the ones that were ruined because the dealer did not set the work order up properly.

And they are to provide you with a loaner at no cost while this is being done.

Be polite, explain yourself calmly and clearly, and maybe find out if the dealership has a BBB accreditation themselves or not. You could also pursue a small claims case against them for the cost of everything you just cited PLUS the cost of a rental car while it's being done and additional monies for the aggravation (tied to mileage, missed time from work, etc.).

I've never seen any bedliner brand seal in the tailgate access panel and screws. However, I see the plastic caps sprayed over all the time.

It isn't anywhere near as common to spray over the access panels because they've been "bitten" enough times by owners bringing them back and saying "you screwed it up, you fix it" when they need access to the handle or something. It does happen, though.

That's not the way it is with LINE-X dealers. They are trained at their corporate headquarters (in Huntsville, Alabama) and they never seal down the tailgate panel. Now, other brands that don't get training, that might be a different story.

You are correct, most shops do not spray over the access panel without removing it. But a lazy shop regardless of brand will spray the tailgate and access panel together. I just figured since the OP was having issues with the caps they might as well check the tailgate.
