Doing brake line replacement, what else should I do?

Your humble opinion makes sense. Of course others have found different approaches doable as well. Anyway, just this afternoon picked up an Imperial ISO bubble flare kit, Imperial double flare 45 degree kit and inside and outside reamer.

So you answered one of my dumb questions. Chevy used a bubble flare. One more dumb question: Am I correct in saying an inverted 45 degree double flare and a bubble flare are interchangeable with the same fitting? Or do they each require a different fitting? And I do understand the difference wrt a single 45 degree flare, such as low pressure line. It is just these brakes and the design have past this old SBC guy up.

thanks for posting.

UPDATED: Just watched a video by John Peirce from AGS Company, leader in brake line manufacturing. His video stated double inverted flare and bubble flare are not interchangeable, questions answered.

One more tip:

Don't even bother trying to loosen the fittings on the abs pump before just cutting the old lines flush or as close as you can to the fittings.

You need every advantage at your disposal to get those original fittings to come out of the ABS pump. Messing with line wrenches or anything else other than a quality six point socket, plenty of PB Blaster and a long handled ratchet is just gonna round the original fittings off and make the job that much harder.

Clip those old lines off and go after it with a straight shot and a good fitting socket.

So I ordered Dorman 919-107. I contacted Dorman to ensure it was a proper fit..I don't know where we get the .5" off or whatever between ext-cab models on the VIN detail...but it worked just fine. I paid a local mechanic to reinstall the lines. Everything else looked pretty good and he did it without having to lift the rear bed.The Dorman kit looked really good. Should last just as long as the OEM set.

I can now brake...with a bit more confidence ;)

I am not sure how I went this long without a line rupture, they looked absolutely terrible!

Well good for you, I nearly went with Dorman, but opted for EZ-Bend and a diy project. Lines on order. I indeed had a brake line rupture. No fun.
