The easiest way is to install the whole gage cluster from an HD truck.  It is a plug-n-play item and can be changed out in 15 minutes or less.

Otherwise you will have to get an aftermarket gage from somewhere like Summit and then wire it in yourself.

ok guys got it figured out. how to add tranny temp guage.

1. purchase cluster with tranny temp guage (jpcustoms, ebay, gmpartsdirect).

2. once it arrives in the mail, write down your current mileage and hours.

3. send an email to unitedradio.com. they will email you the sworn statement paperwork that you write your mileage and personal info on.

4. mail your new cluster and paperwork including credit card info to: united radio automotive division 5705 enterprise parkway, east syracuse, ny 13057-2905  $62.00

5. park your truck and wait for new cluster. approx 2-3 business days.

6. plug and play!

well, if you're going to add other gauges later anyways (like boost), you might as well get a dashboard or column cluster and wire it yourself.  I think you can take the temp from the side of the transmission, otherwise you could do it inline with the cooler/
