Oil pressure 6.0 engine on 2011 3500 extended

Recommended Posts

I'm considering buying a van with 76K on it. At warm idle, the pressure is about 30 PSI on the indicator. If I rev the RPM, the pressure slowing increases, reaches a peak, and then drops down a bit.

Here's an example. The 30 PSI number is correct, but the other numbers are guestimates based on my fuzzy memory:

1. Idle RPM: 30 PSI

2. Rev to 2500 RPM while parked: Oil pressure slowly rises to 45 PSI. Pressure reaches its peaks a few seconds after the RPM reaches it peak. Pressure stays at this peak for a few seconds.

3. With the RPM still at 2500 the oil pressure goes down to 40 PSI and stays there.

Is this normal behavior for the Vortec 6.0 in a 2011 van?

Normal... I have the same reading. I also used Torque to validate the reading. Torque is a program the reads performance directly from the van's computer.
