2008 DIC not illuminating

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, brand new to the site and I hope someone can help me out. I have 08' 2500HD with 62,000 miles. A little over 6 months ago the instrument cluster lighting would blink on and off while driving for several days and then it completely went out when it was dark out.

The driver's instrument cluster light goes out when it gets dark out. During the day the cluster lights turn on and all the gauges work fine. When it gets dark out, the lights in the cluster go out but the gauges still work. The steering wheel controls don't illuminate as well.

The radio, power door/ windows, and HVAC controls light up no problem.

Thanks for the help Jeff

Is the day night sensor on the dash front covered, or dirty? TOP dash, Middle, very near windshield

It is not covered. Based on my symptoms do you think that sensor may have gone bad? I think if its reading the day / night change it might still be working.

have you tried to turn off your auto light feature. turn your head light switch to the far right, and see if your panel light come on . if they do then the sensor is bad, if still nothing then you will need to check your cluster..

Well guys i replaced the headling switch and the ambient light sensor on the dash. The issue is still occurring. The only two things i can think of is replacing the BCM and / or sending the instrument cluster out to get fixed. If i send the cluster out, i don't think it will fix the lights on the steering wheel not lighting up. What do u guys think?

need to pop into a dealership and spend the 80-100 for 1 hour of diagnostic with their tech 2 , bi directional diagnostic tool. They can turn the light on from the tool, and show exactly which part has failed. Once you know, go to GMpartsdirect.com, and buy it.

Good luck, and please update us all, thanks!
