Venting heat from fog lights

Recommended Posts

Did an HID swap for the fog lights. Seems to be a lot of melting going on, so I was wondering if anyone has figured a way to dissipate some of the heat without letting moisture in? Maybe drill a hole at the top and bottom of the light, let the air flow right through and if any water gets in, it'll drain right out, plus the heat from the bulb should dry it up.

These "small" assemblies aren't designed to digest lots of heat. The vent is tiny. Try some 3M Goretex headlight patches. These patches allow your headlights to exhale, but won't let moisture in. Used on many OEM Headlights. I put 2 extra vents on my '15 Sierra headlights. Drill a hole about half the size of the patch (8-10mm), blow out or vacuum debris from the housing and just stick the patch on. I'd put 2 of them on the top of each side of the OEM vent or one top and bottom (whatever you'd like). They are $4 for 2 patches so you'd need 2 sets. Don't just drill and leave an open hole!

You can even remove the stock patch, drill the hole bigger and apply the new patch in it's place then put an extra vent on the bottom. Good luck and let us know the outcome. Chris

How long have you done this for and any problems with moisture buildup at all?

I haven't done any fog housings only headlights. These are vents that OEM uses.
