Climate control system question

Hey y'all.

Just a quick question - on my 2015 Silverado with Dual zone climate control - each and every time I want to turn it on, either by pressing the button in the center of the fan control knob, or by rotating the fan control knob, the system automatically turns my A/C on, whether I want it on or not!

I don't want the extra drag of the A/C compressor running when I want heat out of my truck, so my question is this, is there any way I can stop the system from automatically and constantly turning on my A/C every time I turn on the HVAC system? As it stands I have to turn it on, then manually turn off the A/C EACH TIME, which is annoying.

Any help would be appreciated, if I have to live with it as-is I will, but it's annoying to have to constantly turn off the A/C each time I turn the HVAC system on.

Thanks,

G

The auto system turns the light on but it is not constantly running as you would expect. GM is not the only auto climate that does this as most do the same exact thing. Safe to say, just because it is on does not mean it's running. The computer will only cycle the compressor when cooling or de-humidification are required.

I thought the same thing as you but did some research and it put my mind at ease.

The system should only turn on the AC light when the compressor is running. That would seem like a lot better way to handle things. I guess as long as that compressor is off, it is OK though.

Ok thanks guys. Yes it's very annoying so I'll probably just keep manually turning it off.
